Alopecia, Beauty, Identity & Learning to Love the Woman in the Mirror
Hair loss can be about so much more than hair. For many Black women, our hair is deeply connected to identity, femininity, culture, confidence, and beauty. When that changes, it can bring grief, frustration, insecurity, and feelings that aren't always easy to talk about.
This honest conversation creates space to talk about alopecia, the emotional impact of hair loss, beauty standards, wigs and protective styles, dating and visibility, and the journey toward seeing ourselves beyond our hair.
We'll focus on three things:
The Grief Is Real
Making space for the emotions that come with hair loss—including anger, sadness, frustration, embarrassment, and the loss of a version of ourselves we recognized.Beyond the Hair
Exploring identity, femininity, beauty, confidence, and the pressure Black women often feel to "fix" or hide changes to our appearance.Still Me. Still Beautiful. Still Whole.
Finding confidence, community, humor, and joy while learning to see ourselves beyond what grows—or doesn't grow—on our heads.
And yes, we're going to talk about the awkward shit too. The staring. The questions. The unsolicited advice. The wigs. The hats. The "Is that your real hair?" And the moments when you simply don't feel like explaining yourself.
Because alopecia may change your hair.
It does not change your worth. ❤️
